Washing our hands in soil seems counter productive, yet soil is actually rather clean and pure. The colour and texture of the soil remains in the soap bars, they are exfoliating and scented to replicate my garden, with eucalyptus and Jasmin.

Soil sieving as artwork.

Soil Sieving is the last stage of compost care. The falling soil makes the most interesting pattern almost like rain. For the second iteration of the soil sieve, I wanted to make a soil swing, so it could be participatory and an artwork by its own.

Soil Swing was shown in Greenhouse collective

Soil Post Journey

2022

Documentation through soil collection and souvenirs of a rail art journey over 43 days through Europe. Each day collecting soil and mementoes of the day/place to post back to my studio in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh (UK) – London (UK) -Brussels (BE) -Amsterdam (NL) – Hamburg (DE) – Aarhus (DK) – Ebeltoft (DK) – Hamburg (DE)- Kassel (DE)- Basel (SW) – Lugano (SW) – Venice (IT) – Naples (IT) – Ischia (IT) – Puglia (IT).

The project began by wanting to bridge the distance between my two grandmothers. One on the west coast of Scotland- Stranraer, and the other on mainland Denmark- Løgten. To travel between these two origins by rail. The project later grew by a desire to visit art throughout Europe: Documenta 15, Art Basel, Venice Biennale and Note Verde. And collect some friends and other interesting soils along the way.
